Visitor Receipts

Estimated inbound receipts for the month of July amounted to about Php 33,525.63 Million which grew by more than half or 58.22% from July 2016 earnings amounting to Php 21,188.97 Million.


The Average Daily Expenditure (ADE) for the month in review is Php 5,989.49. The Average Length of Stay (ALoS) of tourists in the country is recorded at 9.81 nights while Average per Capita Expenditure of visitors for the month is pegged at Php 58,756.86.


 

Korea is the top spending market with estimated expenditure of Php 9.83 Billion for the month of July. Receipts from China followed very closely with almost Php 8.89 Billion spending. USA placed third with spending of about Php 3.95 Billion. Taiwan is at fourth spot with estimated Php 2.17 Billion spent followed by Japan with Php 1.66 Billion.

 

 

The top 11-20 markets are dominated by visitors from European countries such as Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, France and the Netherlands.

 
 

Among the top twenty markets, Spain registered the highest per capita expenditure for July 2017. In average, a visitor from Spain spent Php 120,024.79 while in the country. Visitors from Taiwan followed with Php 105,992.03 per capita spending. China also recorded high per capita expenditure of Php 97,974.63. Other top markets with high per capita spending include Korea with Php 74,429.65, Malaysia with Php 55,011.20 and USA with Php 45,925.61.

 

Visitor Arrivals

Visitor arrivals reached a total of 568,035 for the month of July, up by 1.28% from the arrivals in July 2016 of 560,872 arrivals.

By sub-regional grouping, East Asia provided the biggest influx of tourists with 301,349 arrivals, constituting 53.05% of the total. Korea, Japan and China which belong to this region accounted for 47.58% of the total volume.

North America produced a total of 101,509 arrivals, a share of 17.87% to the total. This region increased by 15.70% from its volume of 87,736 last July 2016, with all countries under this region posting double-digit gains. The ASEAN region comprised 6.46% share of the total equivalent to 36,667 arrivals.

By major regional grouping, the data shows that the largest bulk of arrivals came from countries in Asia, with 61.51% of the total volume or 349,406 visitors. Arrivals from the Americas recorded 102,140 visitor count, forming 17.98% of total arrivals. On the other hand, arrivals from Europe reached a total of 55,916 (9.84%) while some 27,507 arrivals (4.84%) were from Australasia/Pacific.


Arrivals by Port of Entry

Air arrivals comprised 98.91% of the total inbound visitors, equivalent to 561,859 visitors.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport as the primary port of entry of the country, welcomed 66.50% of the total visitor volume or 377,749 arrivals. For the major airports in Central Philippines, 107,141 visitors entered via Cebu constituting 18.86% of arrivals while 54,648 visitors arrived through Kalibo corresponding to 9.62% of arrivals. The Clark International Airport, major gateway of Luzon, recorded 19,552 visitors while the rest of the airports accumulated 2,769 arrivals.


Visitor Markets, July 2017

The Korean market supplied 132,135 arrivals. Since January, this market produced more than 100,000 visitors in a single month. China placed second for the month of July with its arrival contribution of 90,763, showing a growth of 10.90% compared to its volume of 81,843 in July 2016. Although China outranked USA, visitor volume from United States rose by 14.84% by producing 86,017 arrivals.

Japan provided 47,377 arrivals with an increase of 6.62% from its arrivals of 44,434 for the same period last year. Taiwan claimed the fifth spot by furnishing 20,451 arrivals, followed by Australia with 19,985 arrivals.


Completing the top 10 markets are United Kingdom with 17,254 arrivals, Canada with 15,159 arrivals, Singapore with 12,535 arrivals, and Malaysia with 10,632 arrivals.

Arrivals from Hongkong reached 9,810 followed by India with 9,637 arrivals. The top 20 markets this month includes the following: Saudi Arabia with 8,227 arrivals, Germany with 6,008 arrivals, Indonesia with 4,887 arrivals, France with 4,555 arrivals, Guam with 4,222 arrivals, Thailand with 3,671 arrivals, Spain with 3,572 arrivals, and the Netherlands with 3,224 arrivals.



Visitor Receipts

 

Total earnings gained from tourism activities aggregated to about Php 179.86 billion (or US$3.59 billion) since January 2017. This figure increased by 21.07% compared to the same period last year.


Visitor Arrivals

 

Consistent growth is observed in the country's inbound traffic with a total of 3,925,626 arrivals as of July 2017. This volume registered a double-digit increase of 10.92% from the 3,539,310 count for the same period last year. The biggest volume was recorded in the month of January while the highest growth was registered in April.

Countries from Asia still holds the biggest market share by delivering 60.88% of the total visitor volume or 2,390,002 arrivals. East Asia already surpassed the two million-arrival mark with 2,032,812 arrivals (51.78%) while ASEAN contributed 279,732 arrivals (7.13%) and South Asia with 77,458 arrivals.

North and South America supplied a total of 732,664 arrivals, a share of 18.66% to the total inbound traffic. On the other hand, 421,144 arrivals (10.73%) were recorded from Europe while 193,560 arrivals (4.93%) were registered from the Australasia/Pacific.

 

 

Visitor Markets

Korea is the country's top source of arrivals and has accumulated 927,220 arrivals for 2017, with a market share of 23.62%. The United States of America occupied the second spot with an aggregate of 599,460 visitors, corresponding to 15.27% of the total. China followed with arrivals surpassing the 500,000 thousand level at 545,725 arrivals, comprising 13.90% of total inbound traffic. Visitors from Japan formed 8.70% of the inbound volume equivalent to 341,457 arrivals.

Australia which provided 150,977 arrivals secured the fifth spot with 3.85% share to the total followed closely by Taiwan with 147,468 arrivals posting 3.76% share. Completing the top 10 markets are Canada with 123,402 arrivals, United Kingdom with 110,903 arrivals, Singapore with 97,742 arrivals and Malaysia with 82,843 arrivals.

Among the top 10 markets, China and Canada posted the highest growths of 29.07% and 18.69%, respectively.

The top 11-14 markets include Hongkong with 65,463 arrivals, India with 64,300, Germany with 54,005 arrivals and France with 43,445 arrivals. On the 30,000 arrivals mark are the markets of Indonesia with 33,100 arrivals and Saudi Arabia with 32,783 arrivals. Completing the top 20 sources are Thailand with 27,665 arrivals, Viet Nam with 24,906 arrivals, Guam with 21,589 arrivals, and the Netherlands with 21,063 arrivals.
