 Corregidor Foundation, Inc.

The Corregidor Foundation, Inc. (CFI) is a non-stock, non-profit private corporation organized by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) by virtue of PTA Board Resolution No. B-7-87 dated February 6, 1987 and registered with Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 1987 under SEC Registration No. 145674.

CFI mission is to maintain and preserve war relics on Corregidor Island and manage the development of its potentials as an international and local tourist destination.

The Corregidor Island, a.k.a. “The Rock”, earned the distinction as the stumbling block of the Japanese Imperial Army to completely annihilate the Allied Forces in 1942 in the Pacific.  Had it not been for Corregidor Island’s tenacious defense, Australia would have been overrun by the Japanese that would deprive Gen. MacArthur’s regrouping of forces to mount counter-attacks two (2) years later.  It is one of the most dramatic and historical landmarks in the Pacific, geographically located in the Luzon Area west of capital city Manila.

Presently, CFI administers Corregidor with several tourist-friendly facilities, some of which are leased to private operators/concessionaires such as 31-room Hotel and Restaurant, 17-room Beach Resort Cottages, hostel, rowhouse lodging, beach clubhouse and campsites.  CFI also operates a Light and Sound Show diorama inside the famous 800-meter Malinta Tunnel where Gen. MacArthur established his war room during WWII.  Tour package operators with their own ferry boats and tranvia buses are conducting the guided tours.

In addition, CFI maintains several war memorial sites consisting of American, Japanese and Filipino historical military markers as well as various big guns emplacements and building ruins notably the Mile-Long Barracks, the seat of so-called “Fort Mills” in WWII, Corregidor’s military reference name at that time.

CFI vision is to be self-sustainable in the development of Corregidor by actively attracting more investments and soliciting donations that will provide support for the perpetual maintenance and preservation of its historical relics and facility infrastructure.

From inception, CFI had meticulously implemented with DOT/PTA financial assistance and private donations, the five (5) year development masterplan by architectural firm – F. Manosa and Partners, Inc. which included the rehabilitation of the following:

·         Three pier facilities (South/North/Eng’g)

·         800-m Kindley Airfield

·         31-Room Corregidor Inn and Hostel

·         17-Room Beach Resort Cottages/Clubhouse

·         6,000sq m Filipino Heroes Memorial

·         12 Laterals of Malinta Tunnel (Light & Sound Show)

·         Pacific War Memorial (Museum by FAME, Inc.)

·         11 kms. Concrete road network

·         Spanish Lighthouse/Spanish Museum

·         Japanese Memorial Garden (Donation)

CFI also was able to rehabilitate pre-war existing deepwells and drilled new wells for water supply and establish power supply network system using local diesel-fed generators.  In recent years, CFI concentrated on maintenance activities such as security, ground and janitorial undertakings with some major repair works for its existing piers and building facilities.

The awesome task of operating and preserving Corregidor in its current state and physical condition requires substantial amount and specialized preservation technology such that any assistance is most welcomed from various donor organizations and individuals that value our shared historical legacy.  CFI and Filipino-American Memorial Endowment, Inc (FAME-AMCHAM) are strategic partners in preserving WWII memorials.

We hope you will support CFI in this regard.
